Cluster Development Program

  Cluster is defined as a geographical agglomeration of related enterprises and stakeholders facing common challenges and opportunities. UNIDO technical assistance project for the Up grading of Ethiopian leather and leather product industry is focuses on the natural Cluster development of formal and informal Micro, Small and Medium enterprises engaged on the leather products industry to support the development the leather  sector.  It aims at increasing competitiveness and income of such enterprises through upgrades of quality in compliance with domestic and international standards . Activities will includes establishment of networks among enterprises and stakeholders, establish of backward and forward business linkages , joint investment imitative ( joint purchasing and selling, common machinery and services),   technical and managerial skills upgrading (such as product development and manufacturing, introduction of Enterprise Resource Planning system, entrepreneurship know how development ) both at firm and cluster levels.

 
  Upgrading Technical and Managerial Capacity Using ERP

 
  Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a business management Software usually a suite of integrated applications that a company can use to collect, store, manage and interpret data from many business activities. ERP provides an integrated view of core business processes, often in real-time, using common databases maintained by a database management system.
Under the direct supervision of the Management expert, ERP systems based on Open Source ERP software are being implemented in Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) and in different leather and leather products factories. Among the many modules, HR, Attendance (integrated with biometric devices), Payroll, Skill Management, Finance, Warehouse and many custom developed modules have been successfully developed and are being used to facilitate the day-to-day activities and the decision making of their management.
